Volumes decline at Vienna International Airport

Vienna International Airport has reported that in the first half of the year, cargo volumes fell by 4.6 per cent to 135,984 tonnes, compared to the same six months last year.

Cargo volume, which includes all air cargo and trucking, saw a significant drop in July of 8.4 per cent to 23,348 tonnes, on the same month in 2018.

This took the decline in tonnage at the Austrian airport to 5.2 per cent for the first seven months, as it processed 159,332 tonnes of cargo.

In contrast to the freight struggles, the airport saw revenue and earnings rise considerably in the first half of the year, as the passenger business grew strongly.

Revenue increased 7.5 per cent to €401.4 million and net profit for the period was up 14.6 per cent to €82.9 million.
