Tons of gold bars fall from Russian cargo plane after malfunction

It was raining gold in Russia yesterday as tons of gold bars fell from a Russian Nimbus Airlines AN-12 aircraft after a aircraft malfunction.

The aircraft, carrying 265 million GBP’s worth of gold, diamonds and platinum, took off from Yakutsk airport in Russia when the hatch of the aircraft flew open sending gold bars plummeting below.

Authorities are said to have recovered over 150 gold bars each weighting 20kg each. The gold was said to have been scattered as far as 15 miles away, however.

Police are reportedly interested in speaking to aircraft engineers working on the plane before take-off.
