Swiss WorldCargo suspends all flights to Beijing and Shanghai

SWISS and subsequently Swiss WorldCargo has announced it was temporarily suspending all flights to and from Beijing and Shanghai, China, effective 31 January until 9 February. Hong Kong flights will remain as usual.

The booking process will be closed for all flights to and from Beijing and Shanghai until further notice.

We will share more information in the coming days. Thank you for your understanding, said Alexander Arafa, head of global area and contribution management.

The announcement is a response to the global spread of the Novel Coronavirus (nCoV), a contagious virus that can lead to life threatening pneumonia. The virus first surfaced in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and has spread to 16 countries and killed around 170 people in China.

In the coming weeks, Switzerland Tourism expects a 30-50% reduction in the number of Chinese visitors to Switzerland,” claimed Véronique Kanel.
