Rhenus opens its first branch in New Zealand

The Rhenus Group now has its own entity in New Zealand – Rhenus Logistics NZ – and it started business activities in Auckland on 20 August 2018.

Rhenus Logistics NZ will provide international and domestic logistic services as well as Customs consultancy with a strong focus on the customer experience offering both 4PL & 5PL solutions.

Auckland is home to approximately one third of the New Zealand population; it is the largest city in the country and is located on the North Island. The Rhenus Group is aiming to expand its services in Oceania through its first branch in New Zealand.

Rhenus Logistics NZ managing director, Mark Harrison said: “Despite New Zealand’s geographical distance between supply point and customer markets and the challenges this creates from an international logistics perspective, New Zealand remains a leading supplier for both the global dairy and agriculture industries. New Zealand commodities within these industries are seen as premium products, along with its clean, green image.”

Rhenus Logistics NZ will focus heavily on imports from both the Asian and European markets, given the high demand for products into New Zealand from these origins. The Trans-Tasman market between Australia and New Zealand will also be a key market.

“Supported by our strong global network, we expect to deliver comprehensive and innovative solutions to our customers, enhancing their supply chain’s value through a mutual partnership approach,” said Harrison.

Rhenus Logistics chief executive officer for the Far East, Jan Harnisch added: “We’ve been investing in the expansion of our network in the Asia-Pacific region for several years. We took over the Australian company O’Brien Logistics about one year ago and integrated it within the Rhenus Group.

“We’ve also opened many new business sites, for example in South Korea, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and in the Philippines.”
