An oversupply of available freighter aircraft has impacted values and lease rates despite strong demand caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Aviation industry consultant IBA said data from its InsightIQ platform shows that since May 2020, nearly 200 narrowbody and widebody aircraft have joined the worldwide freighter fleet.
Broken down, 61 additional narrowbody freighters means there are now 625 globally while an increase of 80 mid-size widebody freighter aircraft brings the total to 624. In addition, the large widebody freighter aircraft has grown by 55 to 601 aircraft over the same period.
