Des Vertannes began his career with British Airways in 1970. During 14 years at the airline he held several management positions including Cargo Manager Gulf States and Saudi Arabia in the early ‘80s. In 1984, Vertannes established and managed his own forwarding business before joining Air Canada. Vertannes next move was to ground handling company Menzies Aviation where he served as Chief Executive at Air Menzies International (AMI) and Managing Director Menzies World Cargo. Vertannes was Executive Vice President Cargo for Etihad from April 2007 and, prior to that, Head of Cargo at rival Gulf Air. He retired in 2014 as Global Head of Cargo, IATA.

Chris Notter started as a Customs Officer and then went into freight forwarding, before entering the airline side of the business and spending almost 29 years with German carrier Lufthansa. Notter has held other senior industry roles including Vice President Cargo Operations at Qatar Airways and he was also previously Vice President Operations. Notter then moved onto his current role as Chief Ground Handling Officer at Saudi Airlines Cargo after joining the airline in 2014. He now currently holds various consultancy roles.

For the past 17 years, Fujike has been driving the development and global implementation of air logistics solutions for the key industries, such as aerospace (KN EngineChain) or pharma & healthcare (the award-winning KN PharmaChain product). Fujike has supported the digital transformation of Kuehne+Nagel Air Logistics business unit, starting the way to seamless online customer journey.

Stewart has enjoyed a career of 30 years in the aviation industry, with senior roles in dnata, Emirates and British Airways.   In his last role in dnata, Stewart was responsible for dnata’s global ground handling operations at 90 airports in 15 countries.  This role also included dnata's acquisition growth strategy over the past 15 years.  After graduating in Economics from the University of Warwick, Stewart qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in London.  Stewart is married with three children and has recently returned to the UK to be closer to his family.   His interests include aviation history and watching any sport!

Henrik Ambak started in freight forwarding, and then moved into ground and cargo handling, before joining Cargolux in 2001, overseeing worldwide ground and cargo operations. Ambak joined Emirates SkyCargo tasked with developing and implementing strategies securing the continued Emirates leadership in service delivery. He managed the airline’s Dubai cargo terminals at Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central, cargo handling and trucking suppliers, standards and procedures, special load engineering and load mastering and IT systems usage used to facilitate and support the SkyCargo business. From December 2023 Ambak retired from full time work.

Mario Patyk began his aviation career as Sales Opportunities Manager for UK &  Ireland at British Airways World Cargo, his role was to manage four spot-pricing teams in the UK & Ireland. The department pro-actively sold British Airways World Cargo’s products and services to the forwarding agents in the UK & Ireland with a contribution of £15 million annually to the overall turnover of the UK & I territory. He then went on to manage Sales at Global Airline Services, In this position he represented, sold and developed the represented carriers’ services to the forwarding agents in the UK & I;  and established and maintained sustainable business relationships with the client base: forwarders and carriers. In 2015 Mario joined Airport Leipzig/Halle as Head of Business Development Cargo/Logistics, one of Europe’s top five cargo hubs with annual freight volumes of more than one million tonnes and it is Germany’s second largest freight airport.

Robert Fordree started his aviation career with Lufthansa Cargo at Heathrow Airport and worked in a number of operational roles. Fordree then moved to Menzies Aviation with responsibility for cargo commercial activity across the UK before assuming responsibility as VP Global Key Accounts. Fordree's next move was to spend 10 years with Etihad Airways where his final role was Head of Cargo Operations in Abu Dhabi. He returned to the UK in October 2017 for his second stint with Menzies Aviation, this time based in Edinburgh as VP Cargo Development with a mandate to deliver product development in the cargo sector.

Benoît is an international and multicultural leader with a wide range of skills from strategy development to operational/line responsibility in complex and service-related businesses. His extensive experience includes working for McKinsey & Company in senior business development and service performance management roles from 1999 to 2004. Benoît then joined DHL Express Europe in 2004 and DHL Supply Chain EMEA in 2009, where he held the positions of Director of Operations, Managing Director, Senior VP of Operations, and CEO Germany, Alps & Nordics. In these positions, he implemented new commercial strategies, performance management and engagement models, and achieved significant revenue growth. Benoît was then appointed CEO of Unilode in September 2017.

John Batten has over 35 years’ experience in senior positions in the aviation Industry, including the setting up of TNT Airways, the post of Senior Vice President Cargo at Qatar Airways, and Executive Vice President – Cargo at Swissport. Within this role, Batten became a key member of a number of IATA working groups on e-Freight, e-AWB and Cargo 2000 where he was on the board as an adviser. He is now a Board Member of CargoIQ. In 2015, Batten re-joined the Handling Business with Worldwide Flight Services as Executive Vice President Business Development and then, starting June 2016, acted as Interim CEO for Europe, before taking the lead of WFS’ Cargo operations as EVP Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia (EMEAA).

Steven Verhasselt joined Liege Airport as Cargo Development Manager Asia in 2006. Now he is the commercial director of Liege Airport, Belgium’s leading cargo airport. He is responsible for the global cargo development as core business, but is also in charge of passenger, real estate and Liege Airport Consulting.  Steven is based in Asia, works for a leading European Cargo Airport in a global role. Mr. Verhasselt entered the aviation world in 2001 running a project to start up a cargo airline based in Brussels. The project led him to the Middle East and Asia. In 2003, Mr. Verhasselt established a consulting company in Hong Kong to work with airports, airlines and aviation related companies to develop business in Asia. Steven Verhasselt graduated in Brussels, from Ehsal with a Master Degree in Business Administration. He started working for the Regional Development Agency, focused on assisting startup companies with business plans, seed and venture capital. Olivier Bijaoui turned small cargo handling company SFS, now Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), into the largest cargo company in the globe and second largest ground handling company in the world. Between 2004 and 2016 he was Executive Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of WFS. On leaving in 2016, the company had 18,000 employees, was present at 188 airports in 22 countries, serving 300 airlines, handling of four million tonnes of cargo and 50 million passengers per annum. Since leaving Bijaoui has been the President and the Owner of OB Invest.

Patrik graduated as forwarding agent and took on assignments at American Airlines Cargo and Cathay Pacific Cargo before joining Air Canada Cargo. After 12 years with the airline he stepped down as Cargo Manager Germany and Northern Europe to become Key Account and Business Development Manager at Frankfurt-based ground service agent LUG aircargo handling. At the beginning of 2013 he took over as Managing Director of the company and is now also CEO.

Henk Venema was born on the 06th May 1982 in Groningen (Netherlands). During his studies he started working for Exel Logistics (later acquired by DHL) as an Airfreight Export Expedient. After three years he changed to UTi Worldwide Inc. in which he had various roles, ending as Regional Head of Airfreight. After a stint of 3 years in Geodis as Global Head of Air Product he returned to DHL where he is now Managing Director for the Netherlands for DHL Global Forwarding. He was also active as Chairman for CargoIQ and involved in Air Cargo Netherlands (ACN)

Jessica Tyler joined American Airlines in 2012. Now she is the President of Cargo and VP of Airport Excellence. She is responsible for supporting the teams that care for and equip the cargo and airport teams so they can continue to provide an exceptional experience for American Airlines customers around the world. Jessica’s previous roles within the organisation include Organizational Change Manager, Manager Continuous Improvement & Employee Engagement, Senior Manager- Planning & Execution, Managing Director of Cargo Culture and Transformation and VP Cargo Strategy & Development. Jessica led the largest investment in cargo to-date – a business transformation effort that is just one of several large-scale modernization and change initiatives she has overseen. Her experience and leadership in developing teams that achieve customer-focused success make her the right leader for the airports and cargo team in this challenging climate.

As CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority, Christina Cassotis has led a dramatic turnaround at Pittsburgh International Airport – a near doubling of nonstop destinations served, five years of strong passenger traffic growth, and an ambitious Terminal Modernization Program. During her tenure, Pittsburgh International was named Air Transport World’s 2017 Airport of the Year and Regional Airport of the Year by the CAPA Centre for Aviation. Fast Company magazine named Pittsburgh International Airport as One of the Most Innovative Companies in the World as well as a finalist in its World Changing Ideas awards, both in 2020 Ms. Cassotis also received the 2017 Excellence in Visionary Leadership Award from Airports Council International – North America, and was named the 2017 Director of the Year for medium-size airports by Airport Revenue News. A frequent speaker at national and international aviation events, Ms. Cassotis holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a BA from the University of Massachusetts. She is also a member of the board of directors for S&T Bancorp.

Jim Szczesniak (says-knee-ak) is the Airport Director at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC).  He is the executive in charge of day-to-day operations of the fifth busiest air cargo airport in the world.  The Anchorage airport processes 2.8 million tons of cargo per year, is the strategic link between Asia and the Americas, and a base of operations for all three of the major integrators, UPS, FedEx, and DHL.  The Anchorage airport is also the hub for Alaskan aviation and welcomes over five million passengers per year.  Szczesniak also oversees the world’s busiest seaplane base, Lake Hood, which is located next to the international airport. Prior to his position in Anchorage, Mr. Szczesniak was Deputy Commissioner of Aviation for the Chicago O’Hare and Midway International Airports.  He was responsible for the development of O’Hare’s new $200-million, 940,000 sq. ft. air cargo complex.  He led an international trade mission to increase Chicago’s air cargo market and worked closely with Chicago’s air cargo stakeholders to improve air cargo facilities and workforce development. Mr. Szcznesiak holds a MBA from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor’s in aviation management from Southern Illinois University.  He is also a licensed commercial pilot and aircraft mechanic.

Sonntag previously held various management positions at Siemens and ABB, among others. With his broad expertise in procurement and logistics, together with an excellent global network in the aviation industry, Sonntag leads the ULD management company Jettainer with a focus on meaningful innovation and digitization to create transparency and deliver value to all players in the supply chain.

Nadeem Sultan is an air cargo expert with more than 20+ years of international experience at some of the largest international airlines. Throughout his career path, he held various senior positions at Atlas Air Inc. in Europe and the Middle-East , and at Qatar Airways in Qatar, where he was responsible for Global Cargo and Freighter Operations from 2014 till 2018. In 2019 Nadeem joined Volga-Dnepr Group at the position of Operations Director, SCO.  One year later he was appointed as Chief Operating Officer, CargoLogicAir UK and later on as CEO of the company. His in-depth knowledge, market expertise and experience have always contributed to the overall successful performance of the companies he worked at, whereas his leadership skills allowed him to weather the challenges and navigate the companies towards steady development.

Emir Pineda is the Trade & Logistics Manager for the Marketing Division of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, which operates Miami International Airport (MIA). Pineda started his career as an intern at MIA in 1988 before embarking on a career that has seen him work in senior business development roles for cargo trade at both Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Airport and Air France/KLM Martinair Cargo. He also served as the Commercial Route Development Manager for Cargolux, responsible for sales and operations throughout Latin America.

Wally Devereaux is the Managing Director of Cargo and Charters for Southwest    Airlines.  He started his career with Southwest in February, 1992 as a Customer Service Agent at Dallas Love Field.  Since that time, he has served in various roles at Southwest Airlines in the Ground Operations, Corporate Communications, and Marketing Departments. Wally joined the Cargo and Charters Management team in 1999 as the Cargo National Account Manager where he spent seven years working with Southwest’s largest Cargo Customers.  He held a variety of positions in the department before being promoted to his current role 2018. Wally serves on the board of directors for the Center for Logistics Education and Research at the University of North Texas and the Transportation Institute at the University of Denver.  He is also the proud recipient of the Airforwarders Association’s 2007 James Foster Memorial Award. He’s a 1991 graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, and currently resides in Colleyville, Texas with his wife and two daughters.

Since joining Schiphol Cargo in 2008 as Business Development Director, Bart has worked with the logistics community, perishables stakeholders, and pharma leaders around the world to provide solutions, drive best practice, and ensure a vibrant market place. Additionally, Bart represents Schiphol Cargo in industry and government bodies including Air Cargo Netherlands (ACN), Holland International Distribution Council (HIDC), Amsterdam Logistics Board, and Cargonaut. Bart has more than 20 years of experience in air cargo, having started his career at Jet Services in the Netherlands, and formerly held the positions of Commercial Director at GTI Noordwest, and Head of Pharma at DHL Express Benelux.

Christopher Licht began his career in the aviation industry in 2006, when he worked as a cargo handling agent in Frankfurt for Avia Partner. He then chose to change his career path to the airlines administration. Since then he served in several leading roles at major airlines, Alitalia, Air logistics, Air China, Saudia Airlines, and Qatar Airways where he was the Operational Head for Central & Eastern Europe. In this role he was responsible for and accountable for the complete management of safety, security and operational compliance in the overall region, covering over 30 stations. Licht joined Celebi from Kuehne + Nagel, his main responsibilities are to ensure operational performance and quality optimisation, he also oversees the GHA selection process and the sustainability of contractual terms.

Shahzad  Aslam is Director of Core Cargo Products at CHAMP CargoSystems.  Based in London, Shaz oversees the product management of CHAMP’s core cargo products, including Cargospot, APIs & Freight.aero. These products have more than 130 customers with 70 major international airlines and produce around 30 million USD revenue per annum. Shaz is responsible for creating and maintaining the products’ digital strategy, defining product roadmaps and building support for relevant business models. Shaz has a special interest in digitalization of Air Cargo Industry. Shaz works directly with cargo airline and ground handling stakeholders, helping them utilize digital technologies to improve organisational efficiency within their businesses. ​Shaz has over 20 years of professional experience working in Air Cargo and IT domain, having gained hands-on experience through working at a number of international airlines prior to joining CHAMP twelve years ago.  ​Shaz holds a Master’s Degree in Software Engineering from the University of Oxford.

Lionel van der Walt has more than 20 years of international executive leadership experience. He spent the early part of his career in the South African Air Force and later over a decade with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), where he held various leadership roles based out of South Africa, Spain and the United States, including President of Cargo Network Services Corp. (CNS), IATA’s U.S. cargo subsidiary. Post CNS, he served as Chief Executive Officer at the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC). He also served as a member of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association and PayCargo’s Board of Directors. Currently, Lionel is President and Chief Executive Officer, Americas at PayCargo and serves as a member of the PayCargo EU, the RCI Foundation and the Clayton Youth Rugby Club’s Boards of Directors. Lionel has a passion for driving positive change both in the workplace and across the industry. He strongly supports increased stakeholder collaboration, attracting new talent to industries and embracing diversity. Having worked across three continents he is a true global citizen with a clear understanding of the benefits that multicultural teams can deliver in today's connected world. Lionel holds an MBA in Strategy and General Management from Milpark Business School in South Africa and qualified both as an Air Traffic Controller as well as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician earlier in his career.

Steven is an airline operations leader who has been the Managing Partner of Skylight Aviation since 2012. Steven’s twenty years of aviation experience has spanned continents and he has held senior management and leadership roles in Customer Experience, Ground Operations, Operations Control, Commercial and General Management. Steven spent a number of years with AirAsia Group, initially acting as a Consultant to the Group and latterly as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for AirAsia Japan.  He went on to become the Group Head of Ground and Inflight Operations, responsible for the overall operations delivery and cost performance of all AirAsia (A320) and AirAsia X (A330) Group operations across its global network. Prior to AirAsia, Steven was the Group Head of Operations for Jetstar Group with responsibility for its multiple AOC operations across Asia Pacific.

De Valck managed the CEIV pharma community certification program at BRUcargo making Brussels Airport the first cargo community in the world to be CEIV pharma certified. De Valck is co-founder and chairman of Pharma.Aero and a full member of the IATA Time and Temperature Working Group.

Stan Wraight is the Co-Founder of Strategic Aviation Solutions (SASI) with over 40 years of senior air cargo management experience in operations. His extensive management back ground includes his positions as Vice-President of Global Cargo Sales and Marketing for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines; Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the U.S. firm Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings. Wraight led the team that founded Volga Dnepr’s Airbridge Cargo in 2003, which has grown to be a global scheduled cargo operator. Wraight also serves or served on the boards of various companies including scheduled and all cargo airlines, an all passenger LCC airline based in Europe where he was also Vice President and engaged in ACMI services and strategy, ground handling companies and E Commerce logistics entities.

Roland, started his aviation career 34 years ago in the sales department of Air   Canada in Frankfurt, Germany. A couple of years later he moved over to Delta Air Lines where he held several positions in Sales Management - the last one as Regional Director Sales Southern Europe and Southeast Asia. In March 2005 he joined Fraport as VP Sales and the key contact for the airlines’ route and network planners ensuring optimal development of scheduled services to and via  Frankfurt. In February 2013 he was appointed VP Sales Cargo for Frankfurt Airport and is based within Fraport’s Cargo & Logistics Infrastructure Development division. In Europe, Frankfurt Airport ranks first in terms of cargo tonnage and was the fourth-busiest gateway for passenger traffic in 2019.

Yuval’s tenure as CEO of Hermes started in 2012 and has seen the growth of HLT around the world, deployed as a world leading Cargo Management System & Hub Management System running some of the largest, most advanced GHA & Airline cargo stations in the world. HLT has offices in the UK, the Middle East & India. Yuval’s passion outside work is being a triathlete and recently also completed an Ironman which has provided him with many similes to the world or Cargo Solutions implementations.  Being just as passionate about technology and innovation, Yuval’s current focus is around the Hermes NG Ecosystem being the most innovative Cargo Solutions suite of systems. David is graduate from University in London where he gained a BA Hons degree in Business & Economics. David commenced a career in wireless telecommunications in 1989 when he joined Hutchison Whampoa in Hong Kong, and was responsible for the roll out of some of the first digital cellular networks in Asia. Joining Motorola Inc. in 1994, David assumed responsibility for Motorola’s join venture network operations, and through 2011 delivered wireless network businesses with local partners across Asia, Middle East and Europe. In 2012 David became General Manager for a technology service company based at London Heathrow Airport responsible for delivering critical radio, voice and wireless data services to clients including British Airways, DNATA, Menzies and other major airlines and ground handlers at Heathrow and UK regional airports. In 2015 David forged the partnership with Resonate to win the telematics contract to service Heathrow Airport Limited, and now is the General Manager of Resonate MP4 delivering and supporting XOPS solutions to customers on a global basis.

Nikhil has led a team of scientists & medical professionals to develop a tool that can extract a host of physiological data just from looking at an individual's face. He hopes that making this technology available on every smartphone can help people make better lifestyle choices by getting a better insight into their health. Amid the current pandemic, Vastmindz is looking at how it can combat the spread of COVID-19 by remotely measuring key vital signs that can be indicative of a viral infection.

Prior to establishing Kratis he had worked for 18 years as a supervisor and a licensed aircraft engineer for Cyprus Airways. He is passionate with safety and human factors. He has been to over 35 countries around the world to deliver training and other services. His clients include organisations such as Rolls-Royce, Gulfstream Aerospace, Emirates Cathay Pacific etc.  He is a member of the EASA Human Factors Collaborative, Advisory Group. He has worked in the development of the current EASA human factors and SMS requirements. He has for many years been active in Aircraft Engineers International.
