MSC Acquires Majority Stake in AlisCargo

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has recently made a significant move by acquiring a majority stake in AlisCargo, an air freight carrier based in Milan.

This strategic acquisition marks a crucial step for MSC as it aims to enhance its air cargo solution capabilities, ultimately benefiting its customers with an improved and consistent service.

Jannie Davel, Senior Vice President of Air Cargo at MSC, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition in a LinkedIn post.

He highlighted that this venture aligns with the company’s broader goal of expanding their offerings in the air cargo sector, ensuring top-notch quality and service for their clients.

AlisCargo Airlines is a notable player in the Italian intercontinental air cargo market, and its foundation in 2021 can be attributed to the visionary efforts of Domenico Alcide Leali, the former founder of Air Dolomiti, which was acquired by Lufthansa in 2003.

Leali’s experience and expertise in the industry have positioned AlisCargo Airlines as the sole Italian intercontinental air cargo company.

A strategic choice made by AlisCargo was establishing its base at Milan Malpensa airport, benefiting from its prime location and extensive road network.

This strategic positioning allows them to efficiently reach various destinations in southern Europe and connect with Italian and European freight forwarders and logistic operators.

The company’s long-term objectives include promoting the ‘Made in Italy’ label worldwide through the provision of Italian technical-logistic services and the establishment of a cargo company to serve the Southern European region.
