Cargo Handling

Menzies expands footprint in Australia

Menzies Aviation continues to grow its geographic footprint in Australia after opening a new cargo facility in Melbourne Avalon Airport in December last year.

Malaysian carrier AirAsia X switched their twice-daily Kuala Lumpur flight from Melbourne Tullamarine to Melbourne’s second airport at Avalon. AirAsia X is the inaugural international airline to transport cargo to Avalon Airport and are forecast to carry around 10,000 tonnes via the new location in 2019.

The airline had previously flown into Tullamarine, 40 miles (65 kilometres) away. To facilitate the cargo handing model, Menzies Aviation trucking services link the two locations, offering cargo transport solutions to our partner airline and the local freight forwarding industry.

Menzies general manager for cargo, Clayton Williams said: “We are very pleased to continue to partner with AirAsia X in Melbourne Avalon. The new location enables the expansion of our trucking solutions in Victoria and has been received very positively by the local freight forwarder community.”
