Maastricht Aachen Airport gains IATA CEIV Pharma certification

Netherlands gateway Maastricht Aachen Airport received IATA’s CEIV Pharma certification on 1 November.

Before the airport gained the certification from IATA via an audit, staff across the airport were trained and assessed as procedures were strengthened and facilities optimised, including two temperature-controlled cold storage rooms for pharmaceuticals.

The airport’s managing director, Jos Roeven said pharmaceuticals are important segment in air cargo, especially in Limburg near where the airport is located.

He added: “The south of the Netherlands in general, as well as Limburg in particular, are known worldwide for their pharmaceutical industry. Examples of such companies are Medtronic, Abbott, Boston Scientific, Medrad and Merit Medical.

“Maastricht Aachen Airport has always been an important airport for the transport of medicines and medical equipment. But now we officially meet the high demands that this industry requires of airports with regard to handling, cold and regular storage, and control.”
