Autumn 2015
The retirement in August of Enno Osinga, one of the most respected and forward-thinking airport heads of cargo globally during his nine years at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, provides an opportunity to reflect upon what has been achieved over the last decade in air cargo operations and handling, and what remains to be done.
The introduction the year of a new hub-management system by Etihad Cargo at Abu Dhabi has yielded some such efficiency improvements, enabling it not just to continue operating succesfully at its already theoretically full cargo handling facilities there, but also to benifit from better visibility and quality.
There are some recurring themes in this issue, notably the need to prepare for futher digitalisation, but also the potential opportunities as well as threats coming fro e-commerce and its participants.
