The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is targeting the creation of a global registry for large commercial and industrial drones, according to media reports.
Reuters news agency said the registry could be jointly developed with the United Nations’ aviation agency, quoting an IATA executive on sidelines of the IATA Safety and Flight Ops Conference in Montreal.
Reuters said IATA’s senior vice president for safety and flight operations, Gilberto Lopez Meyer told reporters the airline association will discuss the creation of a global registry jointly sponsored with the International Civil Aviation Organization.
There has been widespread airline industry concerns over near-collisions that have nearly taken place between unmanned aircraft and commercial aircraft as drone usage continues to grow globally.
