IAG Cargo to increase US belly capacity with new Pittsburgh route

IAG Cargo will increase its belly capacity into the USA next year as it will introduce a new direct British Airways service to Pittsburgh – which will be the only direct flight from the UK.

From 2 April, 2019, the service will run year-round and the four times a week Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner service with a payload of up 14 tonnes a flight and will operate from London Heathrow Airport.

IAG Cargo says Pittsburgh’s export-oriented advanced industries including health services, manufacturing, and technology seeing growth rates of nearly double the rate of the city’s overall private sector growth in recent years, and anticipates the new route will support these industries by carrying products such as pharmaceuticals and machinery parts.

IAG Cargo director of sales, marketing and products, Camilo Garcia said: “Pittsburgh is home to thriving technology, robotics and healthcare industries and the new route will provide easy access to customers from the UK and beyond.

“This addition builds on our strong entry points into the US and will use the newest aircraft in our fleet, the Boeing 787-8. We’re proud to add Pittsburgh to our network of over 350 destinations globally.”
