IAG Cargo helps UK overcome lettuce shortage

IAG Cargo has helped plug the gap in UK supplies of lettuces for this weekend by completing a single shipment of over 30,000 heads of the vegetables from Los Angeles International Airport to London Heathrow Airport.

The UK’s heatwave has led to a spike in demand for iceburg lettuces and there has been a national shortage across the UK with supermarkets running out of the perishable.

IAG Cargo director of sales, marketing and products, Camilo Garcia said: “We ship fresh produce to over 350 locations, 24/7, helping Brits continue to receive fresh fruit and veg so they can enjoy the wonderful weather the UK has been experiencing.

“We take the responsibility of shipping lettuce to the UK very seriously – our dedicated ‘Constant Fresh’ product team ensure that lettuce heads arrive promptly and in excellent condition in London Heathrow ready to hit supermarket shelves across the country.”

He added: “We fly cargo directly to 28 destinations in North America, and will be increasing the Miami route frequency to three times a day as of winter 2018. This is all the more relevant at a time when a national shortage of fresh greens is probable.”
