Brussels Airport director Geert Aerts looks to the future

“I have been active in the aviation industry for more than 17 years, most recently as regional operations director at CAE Inc, responsible for managing a network of 16 flight simulator training centers and flight schools in the European and Middle-East region. Throughout the years and in my various roles, customers, community and innovation have always been at the forefront, having managed large accounts, global digital transformation initiatives and joint ventures, as well as building alliances and managing mergers and acquisitions. I didn’t hesitate to take the opportunity to join Brussels Airport to continue on this path on a whole new level, in an exciting business with a dedicated and growing community.

“I started at Brussels Airport on 8 March with one clear ambition in mind: to further grow, innovate and develop the cargo activities together with the Brucargo community.

“Cargo is an important cornerstone in the strategy and development of Brussels Airport. We will continue the work on the redevelopment of Brucargo as a zone, with a focus on specialisation, sustainability and digitization. BRUcloud is a great example of what has given us an edge on other large airports. We will continue this journey with our Digital Green Lane initiative, together with Air Cargo Belgium and all companies at Brucargo our landside management process will become fully digital by next year.Together we will endeavour new possibilities and solutions to grow our leading role as a digital cargo airport at the forefront of innovation.

“Next to that, we continue to follow all developments in the pharmaceutical and biotech sector, and we will adapt and/or expand our infrastructure, to accommodate this core business, along with our continued commitment to our specialisation in perishables, live animals and e-commerce. The way the cargo community reacted to the covid crisis and is part of the solution is the best example of the way forward. Together, the community combined forces to be the leading European pharma & life sciences gateway, and truly made a difference. I’m proud to now be part of that.

“I am truly looking forward to continuing the close cooperation with Air Cargo Belgium and all of you and to getting to know many of you in the coming weeks, even though it might be virtual for now!

“Let’s make this the start of a great collaboration!”
