Freighter aircraft crashes near Toledo Express Airport, USA

A freighter aircraft has crashed near Ohio state’s Toledo Express Airport hitting several unoccupied vehicles before bursting into flames, according to reports.

The aircraft type is believed to be a Convair 440, but no details of where the freighter was heading have been revealed. It is thought the aircraft came down just before 03.00h (local time).

An initial reports from Ohio TV station claimed that the aircraft was inbound from Memphis, and the freighter was thought to be carrying auto parts.

Social media reports show a large fire and people claim that a blaze on a highway in the vicinity of the approach to runway 25, according to the report.

The National Transportation Safety Board tweeted and confirmed the aircraft type: “The NTSB is investigating the crash Wednesday of a Convair 440 in Toledo, Ohio.”

It is believed there was two crew on board. Toledeo Express Airport is situated 10 miles west of Toledo.
