Frankfurt Airport announce a decline in its cargo volumes in 2022

Frankfurt is the most recent airport in Europe to report a drop in cargo traffic in 2017.

Cargo traffic at Europe’s busiest hub fell by 13.3% annually to 2 million tonnes in 2022.

According to airport operator Fraport, the primary causes of this fall were the airspace restrictions brought on by the Ukrainian conflict, China’s zero-COvid policy, and the general slowdown in economic growth.

Additionally, volumes for last year were 5.6% below pre-Covid levels (2019).

The airport saw a 19% year-over-year fall in cargo volume to 159,671 tonnes in December, further reducing the volume of cargo.
