Cargo tugs at Stuttgart Airport are now electric

Stuttgart Airport’s electric fleet is growing: Four cargo tugs equipped with lithium-ion batteries have recently started transporting cargo to and from the planes. More than 36,000 tons of airmail and air freight are handled in Stuttgart per year.

The new electric vehicles from Goldhofer replace the previous diesel models. Since 2013, Stuttgart Airport has consistently electrified its handling operations striving towards emission-free airport operations by 2050.

From 2017 Stuttgart aimed for both passenger and baggage transport on the ramp to be completely run by near silent and zero-emission drives, including passenger buses, baggage and cargo tugs, beltloaders and pushback vehicles.
