Less freighter flights and less cargo in Frankfurt

A reduction in the number of freighters flying from Frankfurt Airport pushed cargo figures down at Europe’s busiest freight hub in July.

Cargo traffic (air freight + airmail) was the only category to post a decline at the airport with 175,960 tonnes being handled – a decline of 6.4 per cent.

The airport said: “This was attributable, among other things, to a reduced number of freighter aircraft operating from FRA and a decreased amount of belly freight being shipped on passenger aircraft (due to higher passenger numbers).”

In the first seven months of the year, freight traffic at Frankfurt Airport has fallen by 1.3 per cent to 1.24 million tonnes. Last year, the hub handled 2.2 million tonnes.
