FIA18: Qatar Airways finalises order for five Boeing 777Fs

Qatar Airways today finalised an order for five Boeing 777 Freighters at the Farnborough International Airshow.

The deal was signed by Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker and Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO, Kevin McAllister and is valued at $1.7 billion at current list prices and was announced as a commitment in April.

Al Baker said: “I am delighted to be further enhancing our cargo fleet and adding five Boeing 777F aircraft. In the past 15 years Qatar Airways Cargo has grown steadily and globally, becoming the third largest in the world.”

Qatar operates a fleet of 13 777Fs and two 747-8Fs.

Al Baker also talked about the continued blockade of Qatar carried out by the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries.

He said the blockade had had a positive impact on its cargo business and it had been shipping a lot more freight than before.
