London Stansted posts 2.2% tonnage dip in June

Tonnage at London Stansted Airport fell by 2.2 per cent in June compared to the same month in 2017 to 21,637 tonnes but its moving 12-month annual total is up by 0.6 per cent.

The UK gateway has handled 260,929 tonnes in the last 12 months and is set to be boosted in the months ahead, as Emirates started a new daily belly route last month connecting Stansted to Dubai.

The Airports Council International (ACI) Europe annual Airport Industry Connectivity Report recently revealed that Stansted recorded a 43 per cent increase in the number of direct flights offered from the airport since 2013.

London Stansted’s finance director, James Dix said: “This is another strong example we are achieving our aim to provide even more choice of direct and convenient air travel for the catchment we serve, doing so by investing significantly in our infrastructure to improve the airport experience and competing with airports across the world to encourage even more airlines to join us.”
