Steady month for cargo in Hong Kong

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) saw a slight rise in cargo throughput in March as it recorded year-on-year growth of 0.2 per cent to 432,000 tonnes.

Exports saw an 11 per cent increase in March, making the biggest contribution to cargo growth. Amongst key trading regions, cargo exported to North America and Europe posted the largest increases. Imports and transshipments both declined.

Over the first three months of the year, HKIA handled 1.1 million tonnes of cargo between January and March 2019, a 5.4 per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2018.

On a 12-month rolling basis, HKIA handled has seen cargo throughput decline slightly by 0.6 per cent to 5.06 million tonnes.
