SAS Cargo to fly two pandas from China to new home in Copenhagen

Scandinavian carrier SAS Cargo will fly two giant pandas – Mao Sun and Xing Er – from China on 4 April to their home at Copenhagen ZOO.

The final preparations are now taking place before flight SK 996 will take-off from Beijing with the two VIP travelers.

Included in the final preparations for this special occasion is the decoration of the aircraft that is bringing Mao Sun and Xing Er to their new home as well as the truck that is taking them the final stretch from Copenhagen Airport to Copenhagen ZOO.

SAS Cargo Group president and chief executive officer, Leif Rasmussen said: “We are very proud to be appointed the official carrier of this very prestigious transport.

“We feel that being entrusted with bringing Mao Sun and Xing Er to their new home in Copenhagen is a big recognition of our continuous efforts in putting safety and quality at the forefront of all our operations.

“We have some very exciting days ahead of us now, planning for all the important steps in making this a safe and smooth journey for these two VIP travelers.”

Copenhagen ZOO vice director and director of research and conversation, Bengt Holst added: “It has been a great pleasure planning and preparing every single step of this transport together with SAS Cargo.

“We have felt through the entire project that we have an experienced partner that puts safety and quality first and helps us look at the pandas’ wellbeing as a top priority.”

The giant pandas moving to Copenhagen from the Chengdu Panda base is a gesture of goodwill from the president of China, Xi Jinping, following Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark’s State Visit to China in 2014 .
