Imperial Logistics International continues to strengthen its senior management team with the appointment of Juergen Mues to the post of chief operating officer (COO) which he will start on 15 March 2019.

Reporting to chief executive officer, Hakan Bicil, Mues (pictured above) will assume overall responsibility for all operational aspects of the business, which employs some 9,000 staff at 170 locations in 20 countries throughout Europe, South America and China.

Mues joins Imperial Logistics from SBB (Swiss Railways) Cargo, where he spent 13 of his total of 30 years in logistics, in a variety of senior posts – most recently as its head of production, and an executive board member.

The appointment of Mues as COO at Imperial Logistics International is part of a rationalisation of the business, which is currently geographically diversified and comprises many subsidiaries that are highly-specialised: for example, in hazardous materials warehousing, automotive logistics, chemicals road transportation and inland waterways barge operations.

Bicil said: “Imperial Logistics International is composed of many very strong operators with unparalleled capabilities and track records in their own fields; but few of these currently exploit their potential across all available geographies.

“In order to realise Imperial Logistics’ ambitious growth plans, we need to take these highly-successful businesses, and create a framework that will support their expansion into new locations. The creation of this new COO position is a key component in facilitating this lateral growth of our businesses.”

He continues: “We are very fortunate in securing the services of Juergen Mues, who brings with him a wealth of experience, and an enthusiasm for innovation and the use of latest technology. He adds significantly to our senior management complement, and I am confident he will help us to take Imperial Logistics International to the next level.”

Mues added: “I am extremely happy to take up this new role within Imperial Logistics International; the company enjoys an excellent market position and reputation, and has tremendous further potential supported by a great team of people.

“Logistics is my passion. I am excited to join the Imperial Logistics team, and have this opportunity to  devote my experience, skills and full energy to its future success and growth.”
